Calgary is a big, spread-out city, so where you stay in Calgary decides how much of your trip you spend in a car. The short version: book the Beltline or East Village for a first visit, a game, a conference or the Stampede. Pick the west end if your trip is really about the mountains, the north and northeast for an early flight, and a house in a newer neighbourhood (or just outside the city) for a big group.
The best area to stay in Calgary is rarely the one closest to downtown. It's the one closest to whatever you're in town to do. This is the guide we use when guests ask us to pick for them, built around the areas where our homes actually are.
Match the area to your trip
| You're in Calgary for | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A first visit, restaurants, nightlife | Beltline, 17th Avenue SW, East Village | Central and walkable, with CTrain nearby |
| A conference, a game or the Stampede | Beltline, East Village | Downtown and the event venues stay close |
| Day trips to Banff and the Rockies | Aspen Woods, the northwest, or Cochrane | You start on the mountain side of the city |
| An early flight or work near the airport | Saddle Ridge, Skyview Ranch, Cornerstone, Livingston, Carrington | Within about 10 km of YYC in a straight line |
| Family visits or appointments in the south | Seton, Mahogany, Wolf Willow | Newer houses in the southeast |
| A big family or group trip | Large homes in the north, northwest and southeast, or Airdrie | 4 to 8 bedrooms, sleeping 10 to 16 |
| A month or more | Any area, on the monthly rate | Stays of 28 nights or more are quoted by the month |
Beltline, 17th Avenue and downtown
Tourism Calgary describes the Beltline as a busy inner-city community just south of the downtown core, home to Central Memorial Park, which it calls the city's oldest park. 17th Avenue SW runs through the middle with restaurants, patios and independent shops. Just south is Mission, originally a Francophone village called Rouleauville, where the Lilac Festival fills 4th Street every June (Tourism Calgary).
Book here for a concert, a game, a conference or a first trip where you want to walk to dinner. The expanded BMO Centre, which the City calls Western Canada's largest convention centre, opened in 2024. Hockey fans should know that 2026–27 is the Saddledome's farewell season; the new arena, Scotia Place, is targeted to open for the 2027/2028 NHL season.
The next Calgary Stampede runs July 9–18, 2027, and central homes tend to book early for those dates. Our Stampede guide covers when to book.
Parking and getting around
Every Calgary home we list includes free parking. The listing tells you where it is, and in a condo building that can mean an underground stall. Calgary's CTrain has two lines, the Red and the Blue, and a ride that stays inside the TD Free Fare Zone along 7 Avenue downtown needs no ticket, according to Calgary Transit as of October 2026. Fare rules can change, so check before you ride.
Skip the core if you want a yard, a quiet street or a big group under one roof.
East Village
Tourism Calgary places East Village on the east side of downtown, with the Bow River to the north and the Elbow River to the east. It's home to the Central Library, opened in 2018, and Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre. We have homes on 6 Avenue SE here, a good fit if you want the river pathways and downtown on foot.
Worth an afternoon, even if you sleep elsewhere
Tourism Calgary's guides are good on three more inner-city areas. Kensington sits just north of downtown with CTrain access at Sunnyside Station. Inglewood is Calgary's oldest neighbourhood, where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet, with independent shops along 9th Avenue SE. Bridgeland is small and walkable, just northeast of downtown. Treat these as places to visit: our central homes are mostly in the Beltline and East Village.
The west end: Aspen Woods and the road to the mountains
Several of our townhomes are in Aspen Woods, along 81 Street SW, and WinSport's Canada Olympic Park is on the same side of the city. In the northwest we have homes in Sage Hill and Glacier Ridge, including two of our largest. If your trip is really a Rockies trip with a Calgary base, start here. The Town of Banff is 128 km west of Calgary, and Parks Canada puts the drive at around an hour and a half on the Trans-Canada Highway.
You need a Parks Canada pass if you stop anywhere in Banff National Park, including the town and viewpoints, according to Parks Canada as of October 2026. Rules and fees can change, so check before you go. Our Banff, Canmore and Kananaskis day-trip plan has the rest.
Skip the west end if you want to walk to dinner every night.
North and northeast: close to the airport
YYC is in northeast Calgary, and YYC puts its terminal 17 km from downtown. For an early flight or work near the airport, our homes in the north and northeast are much closer:
| Neighbourhood | Straight-line distance to YYC |
|---|---|
| Saddle Ridge | 4.8 km |
| Skyview Ranch | 5.3 km |
| Cornerstone (four homes) | 5.7–5.9 km |
| Livingston | 7.5 km |
| Carrington (two homes) | about 8 km |
| Ambleton | 9.2 km |
These are straight-line distances, not driving routes, so check the route against your flight time. Without a car, note that there is no LRT line to the airport: Route 500 is a limited-stop express bus between downtown and YYC, and Route 100 links the airport to Saddletowne Station on the Blue Line (YYC). See the full group on our stays near Calgary airport page.
The southeast: Seton, Mahogany and Wolf Willow
The southeast is mostly newer neighbourhoods with full houses. Seton is home to the South Health Campus hospital, a practical base for appointments there. We also have homes in Mahogany, Riverbend and Sundance, plus the Wolf Willow Group Retreat (4 bedrooms, sleeps 14).
Big groups: book a house, not a row of rooms
Calgary's largest rentals are in the newer neighbourhoods. Our large group homes include the Livingston Grand Retreat (8 bedrooms, sleeps 16), Glacier Ridge Estate (7 bedrooms, sleeps 16) and the All-In Games Retreat (4 bedrooms, sleeps 12). Across the collection, most have board games and air conditioning, and several have a backyard, a game room or a fireplace.
One firm rule: parties and events are never allowed. A small, quiet gathering is fine when everyone stays within the home's guest limit and quiet hours. Our guide to group travel in Calgary covers sharing the beds and the cost.
Just outside the city: Airdrie, Chestermere and Cochrane
- Airdrie is just north of Calgary on Highway 2 (QEII), with the Calgary airport to its south. Our five Airdrie homes sleep 4 to 12; two are on the canal and lake, and all list a high chair and travel crib.
- Chestermere sits on Calgary's eastern edge, built around Chestermere Lake. Our Chestermere home, the Chestermere Lakeshore Retreat (2 bedrooms, sleeps 5), is on the water.
- Cochrane is west of Calgary on Highway 1A at the Bow River, a gateway to Kananaskis and Banff. Our Cochrane home has 3 bedrooms and mountain views.
Our guide to staying outside Calgary compares the three.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best area to stay in Calgary for a first visit?
For most first-time visitors, the Beltline or East Village. Both are central, close to downtown restaurants and the river pathways, and near the CTrain. The Beltline has 17th Avenue SW with Mission next door, and East Village has the Central Library and Studio Bell. For mostly mountain days, a west-end home saves time.
Where should I stay in Calgary if I'm visiting Banff?
Stay on the west side: Aspen Woods, Glacier Ridge or Sage Hill, or Cochrane just outside the city. The Town of Banff is 128 km west of Calgary, and Parks Canada puts the drive at around an hour and a half on the Trans-Canada Highway. As of October 2026 you need a Parks Canada pass if you stop anywhere in Banff National Park, and rules can change, so check Parks Canada before you go.
Which Calgary neighbourhoods are closest to the airport?
Of our homes, Saddle Ridge, Skyview Ranch and Cornerstone in the northeast are closest, at about 4.8 to 5.9 km from YYC in a straight line. Livingston, Carrington and Ambleton in the north are within about 9.5 km. Driving routes are longer than straight lines, so check the route for your flight time. There is no LRT to the airport; Route 500 runs between downtown and YYC.
Do your Calgary homes include parking?
Yes. Every Calgary home we list includes free parking, but the type varies: a driveway, a garage, or an underground stall in a condo building. Each listing describes where to park, and your check-in details repeat it. If covered parking matters, especially in winter, browse our Calgary rentals with a garage and check the photos to see whether the garage is attached, detached or underground.
Can I book a Calgary home for a month or longer?
Yes. Stays of 28 nights or more use a monthly rate set by our team, and they're request-only: you send a request, we confirm availability and the price for each calendar month, and then you pay. A security deposit and ID verification are conditions of a monthly stay. See our monthly furnished rentals in Calgary for the homes and current rates.
